![]() When VE day came, his unit hoped they would go home. He went to France, and then Germany, where he picked up the rifle. ![]() Mr Jacobs joined the Army and trained as a medic. On another forum, I read that K98s required finishing of parts with hand tools, and the numbered parts were filed to fit the rifle they were on.ĭoes this mean the bayonet stud was never finished to hold a bayonet, or is there some other problem. Jacobs' daughter said the rifle looked hand-made to her. What is the best way to get the bayonet to fit?<<<<<<<<ĭr. It's in very good condition, with some bluing worn off. The scabbard has the same serial number on it. I bought the bayonet 2 weeks before buying the rifle. The problem I'm having is the bayonet won't slide onto the bayonet stud. All the numbered parts had the serial number as the receiver. The stock did not have a duffel cut, and the bluing had worn off the end of the barrel and bottom of the trigger guard. Cecil Jacobs brought it back from Germany in 1945. Yesterday I bought a Mauser K98 made by Gustoffwerke (bcd) in 1944.
